Children in Los Angeles are experiencing significant distress and trauma as they witness the destruction of their homes, schools and neighborhoods in the costliest wildfire disaster in the country’s history. We know that disasters have an immediate and long-term impact on children’s physical health, emotional well-being and ability to learn. These impacts can be felt by children years after the event.

In Los Angeles County, Save the Children is ensuring the most vulnerable families have the essential items they need. We will scale programming in impacted communities with a focus on supporting long-term recovery efforts, including helping kids get back to learning and protecting children’s mental and psychosocial well-being.

As a leader in education and childcare recovery, Save the Children responds to emergencies in the U.S. by:

- Providing families with essential items such as hygiene kits, caregiver kits and more.

- Giving emergency grants to damaged child care centers and other places of learning.

- Offering mental health and psychosocial support to children and caregivers.

Through our Children's Emergency Fund, Save the Children can prepare for and respond to crises anywhere in the U.S. and around the world. The Fund ensures that Save the Children can deliver life-saving humanitarian aid for children, families and communities as soon as an emergency strikes.
